NOT JUST A PLACE TO LIVE, A PLACE TO LOVE

Tim Wright, Developer Summerfield Braidwood

With Summerfield we are not just creating another residential estate. Rather our clear objective is to design and build homes that meet the changing needs of their owners together with creating a community environment in which people can live independently and interact as actively as they wish to.

Summerfield incorporates 70 single storey two and three bedroom homes and apartments, all with northerly solar aspect, spacious floor plans, two bathrooms, high ceilings and a freehold title.

All its features combined with country estate style landscaping and an array of common facilities makes Summerfield a very special project and an ideal lifestyle choice.

A HOME FOR LIFE

Peter Wallace, Principal Habitat Realty

Each of Summerfield’s homes and apartments are carefully designed to meet the NSW Government’s SEPP Seniors Housing Policy. Special emphasis is placed on solar access, wider doorways and corridors as well as the kitchen and ensuite which are adaptable for accessibility.

High ceilings and (with some designs) vaulted ceilings help create a feeling of space and modern living. All homes and apartments include two bathrooms, single/ double garages, quality appliances together with carpets, reverse cycle air conditioning, full insulation, low energy lights, allowance for blinds and provision for gas. Many house designs feature double glazing, enclosed patios, pet friendly screens and enclosed rear yard.

Summerfield also caters to the grey nomads among us by having available covered long stand parking for boats, caravans and motorhomes on a freehold title.

Summerfield’s apartments all have level access and are designed along similar lines to the single storey homes. The Mackay and Corby style apartments have the same north facing aspect overlooking a magnificent heritage listed rural vista.

THE LOCATION

Country living with city benefits

Because of its close proximity to three cities: Canberra, Queanbeyan and Goulburn, Braidwood could be best described as “country living with city benefits”.

Its strategic location and heritage listing provides the Town’s cafes, restaurants and various businesses with around 3 million visitors each year.Being only 60 kilometres from the coast and 630 metres above sea level creates four distinct seasons as well as the cooling sea breezes that are welcome on most summer evenings.

Additional features of Braidwood’s location are the many surrounding State and National Parks. Together with nearby major waterways such as the Shoalhaven and Clyde Rivers both popular for fishing and water sports.

In essence Braidwood offers its residents and visitors an attractive heritage presentation with strong agricultural undertones and tourism services together with magnificent rural vistas.

You get the four seasons in Braidwood…the sea
breeze rolls in on a summer afternoon.

THE BUILDING

Christine Young, Young + Metcalf Architects

  • Christine Young, Young + Metcalf Architects

Charged with the task of creating user friendly and environmentally sensitive house designs, award winning architects Young + Metcalf realised the challenge. Special emphasis being placed on spacious easy flow accessible homes that are best described as “homes for life”. All being supported by active and passive common facilities that best facilitate a healthy and socially interactive lifestyle.

For Christine with over 30 years’ experience in creating large residential care and retirement projects. This brief is the kind of opportunity that makes all the hard work worthwhile.

From this challenge has emerged a new development model incorporating free flowing spaces, solar passive design and definite country styling, all based on a freehold torrens title or strata title.

Summerfield is the ideal all-rounder presenting good looks with a solid character and lay back country charm.

THE LANDSCAPE PLAN

Rebecca & Damien Biggs

The cascading building design of Summerfield is complimented all the more by the 8 acres of grounds and the heritage listed vista which surrounds. The whole notion of the landscaping was driven by the topography and the presentation of a heritage listed country estate. “We” had a large site with only 25% building coverage allowing us to design and create dominant landscape features that are both active and passive. In particular features like the stone entry statement, post and rail hardwood fence together with the wetlands and jetty all provide Summerfield with its definitive country estate feel and integrity.

The final piece of the landscape puzzle will be the completion of the community garden in stage four of the development. It will provide another active community component that will complete the circle facilitating interaction and foster new friendships with its residents.

RESORT STYLE FACILITIES

Building a better community

  • The Pond - Summerfield
  • Relaxing in the Pool
  • Summerfield Clubhouse

Special attention and planning was incorporated to select buildings and spaces for specific passive and active pursuits. All with a singular purpose to create a friendly, supportive healthy environment for people to prosper.

Everything is aimed at facilitating social interaction at each resident’s level of participation, the common facilities include:
Club house
Indoor heated swimming pool and gym
Arts and craft centre
Hospitality Suite
Community Garden and fruit trees

Other lifestyle interests are catered for within the town of Braidwood’s own social and sporting associations, after all Summerfield is part of a town not an enclave in itself.

Some of the social and sporting clubs include:
Tennis, Golf, Bowls, Squash, Gun Club, Men’s Shed, Fishing Club, Quilters, Arts Centre, Writers Group, Coffee group, Walking Group, Hospital Committee, Lions Club, Tai Chi, Gardening Club and more.

Many environmental initiatives are also being incorporated into Summerfield to facilitate sustainability and minimise ongoing costs and charges over the medium to longer term.
